Wolfgang Valbrun: The voice of soul comes to the Gretchen with his debut album ‘Flawed By Design’.

New York-born Wolfgang Valbrun is known to many as the former lead singer of the avant-garde British soul and jazz band The Ephemerals, and it was his voice that made the band so recognisable. His solo debut 'Flawed By Design' is a broad spectrum of psychedelic soul noir, deep funk and 70s soul, enriched with influences from rock, gospel, blues and jazz. Wolfgang Valbrun's point of reference is the classic soul sound of the sixties and seventies, which he transforms into a modern, timeless groove. At the heart of it all is his impressive voice, capable of pulling out all the stops of soul, from angry accusation to tender praise of hope.

After moving from New York to France as a teenager, Wolfgang Valbrun immersed himself in the Parisian scene, exploring the world of soul, jazz, hip-hop and Brazilian music. His breakthrough came during his time as a singer with the Ephemerals. He toured the world with them and gained an enthusiastic following.

While performing at Glastonbury, Wolfgang found a new fan in French hip hop and funk legend GUTS. He recruited Wolfgang to tour with GUTS' live band, which led to Wolfgang co-writing and performing on tracks for his "Stop The Violence" album. As luck would have it, we have both artists on the same day and there will be a club night with Guts after Wolfgang Valbrun's concert. If you want to go to both events, you can get a combo-ticket at Tix for Gigs, the contingent is limited. You will have to leave the Gretchen for a short time between the events.
