Los Pirañas: Psychedelic tropical Noise

The avant-garde Latin trio Los Pirañas returns with their new album "Una Oportunidad más de triunfar en la vida". Completely recorded live in the studio over the course of a week through daily jam sessions, it's a spontaneous, collective composition full of energy. Recorded without overdubs or a click track, their hypnotic rhythms and intricate guitar loops unfold in real-time. Their music blends Cumbia, Highlife, Dub, Psychedelia, and Minimalism with radical danceability, taking listeners on an infectious journey into the dark, pulsating heart of Bogotá's exciting underground music scene — bold, imaginative, eclectic, and always deeply groovy.

In tracks like "El Nuevo Promoteo", their unmoored, vibrant loops weave together like a minimalist composition by Steve Reich, only to dissolve shortly after. "El aguazo de Javier Felipe" coalesces like a jerky Captain Beefheart piece, while "Despectiva caridad" offers a relaxed tropical dub vibe, and "Educados por Condorito (Y Don Ramón)" almost sounds like a Donna Summer disco classic filtered through a punk lens.

For nearly 30 years, Eblis Alvarez (Meridian Brothers), Mario Galeano (Frente Cumbiero), and Pedro Ojeda (Romperayo) have been playing together, imprinting their eccentric stamp on Latin American styles like Vallenato, Peruvian Chicha, and Colombian Champeta. Los Pirañas combine these influences with a rock attitude, loud improvisations, and absurd musical humor. Think Captain Beefheart in an exotic mood or Santana on Acid. Utterly wild, yet always highly danceable and entertaining.
